Home Care in California

Home Care Helper connects California families with licensed, local non-medical home care agencies. Today we match families across Los Angeles County's South Bay and Harbor area, from Torrance and the Beach Cities to San Pedro and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. We also serve families across greater Los Angeles, from Santa Monica and Woodland Hills to Pasadena, Whittier and Covina.

How home care works in California

Non-medical home care helps older adults stay safely in the home they love. A trained caregiver can help with companionship, bathing and dressing, meals, medication reminders, light housekeeping, errands and rides to appointments, from a few hours a week to 24-hour care.

California non-medical home care agencies must be licensed as a Home Care Organization (HCO) by the California Department of Social Services, Home Care Services Bureau, and every caregiver they send must be a Registered Home Care Aide who has passed a background check and appears on the state Home Care Aide Registry.

Across our California service areas, non-medical home care typically costs roughly $36 to $48 per hour, depending on the number of hours and the level of care. Most families pay privately, and long-term care insurance and the VA Aid and Attendance benefit can help. Medicare does not cover ongoing non-medical home care.

The Los Angeles County Aging & Disabilities Department (and, inside the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Aging) offers free caregiver support, information and referral services.

How Home Care Helper matching works

Tell us the ZIP code where care is needed and answer a few quick questions about your loved one. We share your request with one licensed local agency that serves your area, and they reach out to talk through your needs and set up an in-home assessment. You won't get a flood of calls from a list of companies.
